Pleasure Orb
Pleasure Orb

When I received the Pleasure Orb as the subject of my next sex toy review I immediately thought of the Orgasmatron from Woody Allen’s sleeper. In fact, having looked at stills of the film after all these years the Pleasure Orb is in fact a whole lot more impressive. It is constructed from ABS plastic and TPR giving a main dome with a smooth finish with four slightly textured domes on its surface. If I had my way the white domes would light up when in use, but that’s perhaps just me being picky 🙂

The Pleasure Orb Vibrator, or should it be massager is one of those non-phallic sex toys that dares to be different from the mass of sex toys out there. It isn’t a love-rocket shaped vibe like most and doesn’t have the power of a mains powered device like the Hitachi Magic Wand.

The Pleasure Orb is waterproof, it’s compatible with water based lubricants and is not hampered by a lead in the way in which a mains powered device is. What it lacks in the shear power of the Magic Wand it makes up for by ease of use, and you simply can’t use a Magic wand in the bath now can you!

We both tried to use the Pleasure Orb for direct stimulation of our erogenous zones and while its two constant speeds and one pulsing mode were OK they were not earth-shattering. The Pleasure Orb comes into its own when you use it with a partner, on each other. The 4.5 volts delivered by the 3 AAA batteries gives a very reasonable amount of power that puts many other vibes to shame, probably because the shape of this massager means that compromises due to physical size limitations weren’t necessary.

Using the Pleasure Orb for a little mutual massage provided a great prelude to sex, an extension to the foreplay that we both enjoy so much. In particular I like most men love a massage at the back of the neck, just at the base of the skull and this one is almost as effective as a Magic wand at sending me cross-eyed with pleasure. In fact being less “brutal” than the Hitachi the experience was altogether more suitable in the context of a prelude to love making. The first time I experienced a Hitachi in a similar way was when a total stranger walked up to me in a basque and stockings at a sexpo and applied it to my neck. But that’s another story …

Does the Pleasure Orb make for a great sex toy? Well, if you are looking for a sex toy to give you orgasms directly I wouldn’t go for the Pleasure Orb, it’s just not that sort of “massager”. What the Pleasure Orb does give you is a way for you and your partner to add something to the sensual play that makes your love making an experience rather than just a fuck.
